Corridor and room was very sparse of decoration and landing on first floor had a very strong odour of smokers.
Light fittings in hall were showing their age and possibly very contemporary at one point in their life, no longer exuded quality.
Top Tip
Excellent Italiian restaurants nearby. perfectly positioned for theatre trip, shopping trip or sight seeing.
Breakfast was superb

Way over priced for what you get

Don't Book much nicer hotels that are much better located and don't have lifts going up through the room!!

The staff were excellent, but the lack of attention to detail in bedrooms needs looking into.Breakfast would be more appealing if not self-service and the very tacky transport cafe style sugar dispensers should be DISPENSED with.
Top Tip
N.B. The Witchery restaurant is good, though the food is not, as they claim, exceptional. Pricey and rather airless. The ambience however is amazing

One of two elevators did not function with 4 people inside. The floors in the corridors were in poor condition (noicy and worn out)
In the rooms the cleanliness is a 5) Expensive breakfast compared to other alternatives)
Top Tip
Don't buy breakfast at the hotel, expensive compared to other alternatives)
Visit the vintage shops, visit royal mile but one cashmere-shop is enough!
The Blue Blazer pub is recomended. The Scottish whisky experience at top of The Royal Mile is a must!!

This hotel was perfect for my husband and I on our trip to Edinburgh. We had selected this hotel based on the location regardless of other customers reviews of the out of date facilities. The hotel is dated, but the location and friendly staff made up for it and i believe that they have some renovations coming later this year. We did not spend much time in the room so were not bothered by the wear and tear. The worst aspect was the rattling plumbing after using anything in the bathroom. If you're planning on spending more than a couple nights in the hotel, it might be better to stay somewhere else.

The castle and royal mile are within a few minutes walk. There is an awesome little bar around the corner, Dragonfly.

Poor standard of room, asked for double room and got 2x single beds pushed together, bathroom in urgent need of upgrading and breakfast was awful and very little choice available even tho breakfast finished at 11 and we arrived at 10.30.

We had an attractive room on the fourth floor overlooking the castle. The only drawback was the shower which changed temperature from warm to cold to scalding while in use. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant.
