Having researched this Hotel on 'Trip Advisor' and other internet sites, I wasn't expecting much, but I have to say the rooms were fantastic (I had a single room with front facing balcony) and the staff couldn't do enough for us. Even though there is obvious work being undertaken at the Hotel during the transition to Mercure Hotels, it didn't cause any disruption to the stay. I intend to come back with my friends........great location and all round lovely place

This hotel has changed its name which made it extremely difficult to locate. On being allocated a room we found that it had only been vacated and wa in need of cleaning ect. Then th electric failed for about two hours which all helped to make the stay a bit of a disaster. To crown things off we were told breakfast was at 7:00am but on arrival found it was actually at 8:00am.

Sorry its very difficult to make a reccommendation given the comedy of errors.

In the middle of refurbishing. New rooms look good, old rooms a little shabby but not dreadful! Hotel is in the very centre of Edinburgh, things to do within a step or two.

This Hotel is a lovely hotel with all amenities available to you. staff are friendly and helpful, as a disabled person i would like to give special thanks to Gary a member of staff who allocated me an adapted room and the food in the mount royal was of excellent standard and had a varied selection to meet the needs of adults and children. I highly recommend this hotel and look forward to booking with them again in the future. this was my first trip to Edinburgh and certainly will not be my last.

I would also like to give a mention to a bar/restaurant in Rose Street that my sister and i found the restaurant was upstairs and would not have been accessible to me but we had a chat with Jenny in the bar downstairs and a quick phone call upstairs resulted in our food being brought downstairs for me. Hunters Chicken is a meal that has to be tried it was cooked to perfection and Jenny was very attentive during our visit the name of the bar was Rose Street Brewery well worth a visit. The people in all the shops are really friendly and helpful and the weather was great as well. Edinburgh Castle and Greyfriars Bobby's churchyard and Greyfriars pub are places that you can not come away without seeing.

bed linen was soiled and had holes in it and it had to be changed. Trouser press and iron were not working. Room generally in need of redecoration and up grade for a hotel supposedly of this quality.

Edinburgh is a great city - lots to see and do, bars and restuarants good, taxi services good, most folk we met were helpful and friendly. Public transport - buses - good value for money with a 'day rider'.
